Witch Creek Fire Pictures

Here's a link to the online photo album of our fire pictures. Most of our pictures are from after we were allowed to return on 10/24/07. The pictures of the fire were found online but they are pictures from the two houses above ours on our street. Our thoughts and concerns still go out to everyone still effected by the fires. Luckily most of our friends and family have been allowed to return home. Hope everything is well with everyone.

Witch Creek Fire 10/24 Going Home!

Around 10:30am we got okay from the news that Poway was cleared to return home. Look at the before and after and how close the fire actually came. What a blessing, it came really close and scorched some of our trees but it didn't burn anything in our yard although it got the neighbors yard like in the photos. By the way, these are the same neighbors in the photos as in the pictures in the previous posts!

Spent the day watching the news and trying to stay as relaxed as possible while not knowing what happened with our house. Luckily things seemed to be getting under better control in our area so now it was just a waiting game for us although a lot of San Diego and the remaining areas still remained on fire.

October 22, 2007 After 6:30pm: Since we were emotionally and physically tired and with the news of the fire approaching our house and not really wanting to watch it burn down on TV we decided to head out to get something to eat.

After coming back we decided to Google our street name and fire and came up with the following pictures of the firefighters in our neighbors backyard one house up. The images to the left are our trees.

October 22, 2007 ~6:30pm:
We see a news broadcast on Channel 8 from this Google Maps location. As they pan up the mountain you can see the fire coming down it. As they pan down the mountain you can see firetrucks at the top of our cul da sac through the thick smoke. Luckily there were 2-3 engines at the top of our hill ready to make a stand. Also luckily our house was between the fire and Poway High School which they just rebuilt and that the Firefighters decided to make a stand on the border of our housing complex.

Witch Creek Fire 10/22 Early Evening

October 22, 2007 ~6:30pm:

We get an email from Uncle Wally with a link with a picture of firefighters on our street from our neighbor 2 houses up the hill. Imagine the feeling after looking at this picture and knowing this house is only 2 houses away.

Witch Creek Fire 10/22 Morning and Day

October 22, 2007 ~3:30 pm:
After hearing they are evacuating Scripps Ranch, we determine that we should evacuate and leave the Sabre Springs area since the smoke was getting worse and we didn't want to get trapped in between the fire which had already closed the 15 North of Sabre Springs. We decided to evacuate to our Downtown condo.

October 22, 2007 ~8:00 am - 3:00 pm:
We watch the news from Cat's place as well as watching the smoke and hillside to determine if we again need to evacuate.

October 22, 2007 7:30 am:
I get a text from JQ stating that they are evacuating to come to Cat's place in Sabre Springs.

October 22, 2007 5:00 am:
I get a call from JQ stating that they are packing the Poway house and that they can see the fire approaching from the mountain.
